Poetry Contest for National Poetry Month 2010

You must submit YOUR OWN original work. Your poems may have been published elsewhere as long as the YOU the author still hold the copyright.

If YOUR work has been previously published please indicate where and when so that we can acknowledge this.


Maximum length should be 55 lines including spaces between stanzas. Typed entries are preferred.

Deadline: Entries will be accepted from January 1 - February 14, 2010.

Submissions will be accepted in three age categories:

Child: up to 11 years old

Youth: 12-17 years old

Adult: 18 and older


All styles will be considered - free verse, rhymed verse, limerick, haiku, sonnet, etc.


Maximum three poems per contestant. YOUR NAME SHOULD NOT APPEAR ANYWHERE ON YOUR POEMS!


Judges will select the top ten poems in each category.


These will be displayed at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts and the Cambridge Libraries during National Poetry Month (April) 2010.

Finalists will be invited to read their work at a public celebration of poetry on Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts.

No cash prizes will be awarded but finalists will receive a gift certificate from the Book Express.

By entering your submission you are granting permission to publish any winning entry on the Cambridge Libraries website,

AND to making an audio version of the poem available on the website, AND to its publication in a small booklet to be presented to all winners,

AND agreeing to its display at the Cambridge Libraries and the Cambridge Centre for the Arts.
