When I look upon the water
I am calm and silent
Until you are the pebble that
Disturbs my world
Night covers the tears I spill
Wiping winds place color across my cheeks
Across the water I see several lights
Lights of people’s laughter
Their lights shine when mine slowly dies
Nothing is left in your eyes
Your eyes once as blue as the water
Becomes as dark clouds ready for rain
Causing me to run for cover
As not the storm, but you pass
Your unbinding laws
Try to pull me in, but that curse is past
Your screams of protests
Apply nothing but shame
And nothing to claim
I once was scared and weak until
Now I’m stronger than you
The water where you lost your pebble
Is my path away and
The distance I crave from you
My thirst for freedom
You’ll never get your pebble
But I will get my freedom
